School Profile 

     West Visayas State University is definitely one of the Top Universities in the Philippines. Many students from different regions prefer to study here than in their local universities due to the quality standard of teaching. The professors are very good at what they do. All of them has their Master's Degree because the University does not accept professors who do not have a Master's Degree. This by itself guarantees any student, who wishes to study here, to receive a topnotch teaching from the professors in this university. 

     The university grounds is a clean, no smoking and environment-friendly area. The university personnel are always welcome to assist students in their needed documents, scholarships, etc. There are a lot of fun activities/events held in the university on specific times of the School Year to enhance the skills of its students not only academically but also in sports and the literary and musical field. It hones the skills and showcase the talents of its students by supporting them in different competitions locally and internationally. 
      The university also show support to their students' skills and talents by providing them with the necessary facilities needed for their improvement. Basketball courts, Covered gym, Laboratories, Libraries, etc. All that the students could basically need for their studies and extracurricular activities are provided. The university undergoes renovations whenever necessary to cater to the needs of the students every Academic year.

Curriculum
     West Visayas state University used k to 12 curriculum, Major reforms have been implemented to lengthen formal schooling to 12 years on a 6+4+2 structure. A year of kindergarten has also been added, with children beginning their formal education at the age of 5 (versus 7 previously) starting with the academic year 2011-2012. The extra two years in the 12-year basic education program have been added at the senior high school level, which is an entirely new tier of the education system designed to better prepare students for higher studies or the job market.

    Then, the name of the school that I observed is WVSU Integrated Laboratory School. It is located in Magsaysay Village, La Paz, Iloilo City, Iloilo, Philippines. This school is located inside the WVSU Campus.

Academic Support System
     WVSU Integrated Laboratory School has some rooms such as: Office of the principal, classroom from Nursery/Kinder, elementary school, and high school, science lab room, comfort room, and also stock room. The principal/director of this school is Mrs. Emellie G. Palomo. Then, this school also has many good teacher. They started their activities in the school at 07.00 a.m and they finish their study at 04.30 pm, except kindergarten which has several hours only.

Teaching System
 The teaching system in West Visayas State University secondary education comprises 4 grades that have changed little since the seconda world war. the curriculum is prescribed for both private and state school. core subjects are as follow :
  • Year 1- Filipino 1, Algebra 1, Integrated Science, English 1, Philippines History
  • Year 2 - Filipino 2, Algebra 2, Biology, English 2, Asian History
  • Year 3 - Filipino 3, Geometry, Chemistry, World History, Geography
  • Year 4 - Filipino 4, Calculus, Trigonometry, Physics, Literature, Economics.  
Materials and Other Learning Sources
    Learning Material that used in West Visayas State University are books that provided in school and some media such as cartolina and Projector to delivery material to student. 
Measurement and Evaluation System
     The teacher in West Visayas State University got their Students score from each quiz, evaluation, and assignment which are given to the Students in every time after finishing their lesson. They also give the Students assignment, but the assignment they are not allowed to give the assignment because the teacher will not disturb their family time of the Students.

Pedagogical Content


 Teaching Method 
     Teaching method that used in class is involving students in learning so that teacher always gives games at the beginning of the class whose contents remain in the material context and from the game make them fun in learning
     
Learning Materia 
     Since learning process, teacher used some material, sometime uses cartolina as a conventional material and also using laptop and projector. 

Source and Learning Technology 
     The teacher use the references from the Department of Education of Philippines. They will teach by books that are given from the department. For the technology, this school has media and projector to help the teacher. teacher also included song become topic in learning. 

Authentic Assesment 
     The teacher will use their quiz, evaluation, student activeness and also assignment.

Teaching Plan Related to your major 
      As long as I observed the learning process, especially in the grade 8, I focus on teaching material about journalism where the material is out of the existing curriculum so my book reference is not much but runs smoothly during the learning process because I studied the material from the internet.


OBSERVATION

Planning For Teaching
     When I observed the WVSU Integrated Laboratory School, On their lesson plan, they planed all of the subjects and also the materials that will be given to the Students. The interesting part comes when the teacher check their attention using some word such as hap hap and the student will say horee..... in order make student be silent and also focus back to the lesson and I tried to be on time in my class because I only have one hour to one material so, I prepare all 30 minutes before started my class. 

Preparing lesson and material 
     All of the teacher planed the lesson well. Some of them used manila paper, cartolina and also the other media to make instructional material, so that they can transfer the knowledge easily. Beside that, the teacher used their laptop to present some pictures, asked the Students to guess it, and also used the speaker to sing.

Teaching in Class 
      Based on the observation, teacher who started class they will start by using pray first because student has group each other So, if we have material by using group we don't need to spend our time for dividing group. we only delivery our material and make student active in class. usually when I delivered my material before next material I'll ask them to check their understanding since learning process and when they still focus I will continue my material and also if entered to practice I made some game each question. because I teach about journalism, I always asked student to bring some paper such as magazine or news paper. 
      Based on the observation, we know that the Student teacher and the teacher work hard. They make Instructional materials every day and started their lesson at 07.30 am then finished at 04.30 pm. Before the Students entered the class, they always pray and greet all of teacher.

Measurement and Evaluation 
     Based on the observation, after they finished to teach the Students, the teacher will give some quizzes for student that related that material before. it will be started 15 minutes before class ended. 


    TEACHING PRACTICE
Procedure of Teaching    
     Before starting my class, I will start asking about their condition today and to enter the church I usually give them guesses so that they focus on my learning after they have succeeded in guessing the next material, then I will give them games related to the material taught today. after that I will explain about my material then give them some questions sometimes they are in the form of group and individual assignments, after that before ending my class, I will start giving quizzes at the end of the class to check the understandings of each of them
                                                                                                                                    
   Time management and organizing activities 
          I taught some material about journalism, one material takes 1 hour. the opening topic was about 5-10 minutes and then went into the core topic 40 minutes and 10 minutes for closing, all of these schedules were made according to the lesson plan given. The lesson plan consists of Introduction, Motivation, Activity, Analysis, Generalization, Evaluation, Assignment.
Problem-Solving
       while there because I taught  grade 8 and also  grade 5 for team teaching classes sometimes what made me difficult was the delivery of material because English there was their second language and Indonesian was a foreign language but sometimes found students who also could not speak English, and pronunciation that different sometimes make students confused with what I say, and students who are so many in class that is 54-56 classy students make me have to be able to handle these students for 1 hour, so I make them do more tasks by grouping so it doesn't take time a lot

Summary and Suggestion 

Purpose of Practicum 
     The purpose of this practicum is to find out how to learn from various countries and to increase the ability of prospective teachers to deal with the various kinds of students who share the world, besides this practice also creates opportunities for prospective teachers that the effective method we teach is not only effective in Indonesia but can also be proven by applying our methods in other countries
   
Procedures of practicum 
      The procedure for practicum WVSU was very good, I had 4 weeks to finish my activity they divided into 4 parts: orientation and observation, teaching assistant, teaching practice, evaluation and reflection.
  There are some procedure of practicum teaching to the Students in the WVSU : before we started our teaching practicum, we should finish our lesson plan, then we consult to the teacher. After many correction, they allow us to teach in the classroom.
Outcomes of practicum 
    
     As a Outcomes of this practicum, we know that there are various ways to pursue students from different countries and this practice can improve English better because we have to practice using English and not have another language, and also can learn methods from what is obtained from this school and I apply it in Indonesia, all the results from here are the provision for facing future education. 
The Challenges of Practicum

     The biggest thing that really challenges me here is how I can manage my time and deliver my material with the methods that I brought from Indonesia so that they understand in the learning process

Overall Impression 
     
     WVSU provides good servants, they are very welcome to different countries starting from the school environment, the teachers, school staff and their students. their students there who were very active in learning and very fond of teachers from other countries made us very comfortable there.

Suggestion and Future Improvement

       I hope, this activity will always be there forever, so as to provide opportunities for other prospective teachers especially for all education majors and more increased participation in ASEAN, and for WVSU so far everything is very good and still welcome to other countries and also maintain teaching methods that so creative going forward again.
