SEA-Teacher Batch 6 stories ( August 3-6, 2018)

A great chance comes, it’s really precious rare chance. I was chosen as SEA-Teacher (Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia) Batch 6 Participant. It was program that held by SEAMEO (Southeast Asian Minister of Education Organization). This project aims The leading organization for enhancing regional understanding and cooperation in education, science and culture for a better quality of life in Southeast Asia. It a respectability for me as a representative from Borneo Tarakan University (UBT), Indonesia. I placed in West Visayas State University (WVSU) Iloilo, Philippines. There are 6 representatives from UBT. I feel grateful because it would become my first time going to abroad for teaching practice.

August, 3-6 2018

Cold weather woke me up earlier. Automatically I checked my phone and it was 3.30 a.m. it my first time took a bath early and prepare, because I have to check in before 5 a.m so I came to airport at 4.45 at Juwata International Airport in Tarakan. My friend and I met in Airport because our destination is same in WVSU.  Our flight to Jakarta especially in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 06.30 So, I waited there for a while and need 2 hours arrived in Jakarta. When we arrived in Jakarta we met our another friend she is Annisa Pratiwi as representative from UHAMKA in Jakarta. We don’t need to wait for long time because after arrived directly we checked in to Manila, Philippines.

We had flight about 4 hours 15 minutes. We arrived at 16.45 p.m. when we landed, next we took our baggage and waiting there because it was only transit in manila so, we waited in Ninoy Aquino International Airport in terminal 3 for a while for and around at 5 we checked in to flight in Iloilo City and our flight at 19.30 p.m. we had flight about 1 hour 25 minutes and we arrived 20.55 in Iloilo City. We took our baggage and went to arrival gate. We met some people that waited in front of gate, they are ma’am Hilda and Ma’am Rose

Ma’am Hilda, ma’am Rose and SEA-Teacher participant in Iloilo Airport.
We went to WVSU with ma’am Hilda and ma’am Rose. We talked many things in our trip. It was Friday night because tomorrow is weekend So, the road was crowded and we took about 30 minutes from iloilo airport to dorm in WVSU. Because my friend and I were really starving, ma’am Hilda and ma’am rose asked us to take a dinner in Mcd near with WVSU, we ate fried chicken, rice and soft drink. We were so glad because we had long trip and finally we ate in delicious place.

Today was Saturday, after we had slept well because we had long trip yesterday suddenly ma’am daisy called us to go around for looking something that we need such as sim card and etc. we would go to mall but it was close because mall will open at 10.00 a.m, so that’s way we decided to go other place and we went to church, actually it was our first time entered the church because we are Muslim but it was fine because sometimes some tourist came to the church to know the history in this place. Philippines is mostly catholic so we can find church everywhere, people there also friendly for everyone even though different religion, I do like this place. After we visited the church and took picture, we went to the mall around 10.00 a.m because we need the sim card to text our family in Indonesia.

Next, we went to the mall to buy sim card and some things such as adapter, food etc.
we can’t stay long time in mall because in afternoon we had invitation card from English education. They celebrated anniversary major and we joined that party. It was very fun for us and they are friendly welcome to us. I enjoyed in that party.

Then, we had an orientation in West Visayas State University, precisely in the CTE building. The first agenda is to see some footage about the history of WVSU and then the speech from the sea teacher coordinator, Ma'am Hilda. We introduced ourselves one by one to the supervisor of each sea teacher. when introducing my self  ma'am Hilda also introduced my supervisor during teaching process and some buddies, My supervisor is Ma'am Prof. Antoinette D. Cortez and my buddies are Marvel, Jolly, Chenee and Ivy.

After that, we sit with each supervisor and buddies. we tried to chat more intimately and at that time we got a teaching schedule while there. I teach 2 levels, namely elementary and junior high school to be exact in grades 5, 7 and 8. to meet the requirements of SEAMEO where I teach at least 20 hours so I get the opportunity to share about Indonesia in undergraduate school and graduated school classes.

In the afternoon we look for lunch with our buddies. We try to be closer each other. we ordered food and while waiting for food to come, we talked a lot about Indonesia and about the Philippines, we were very comfortable talking with them. we laugh together, take pictures together, making joke and to turn on a more pleasant atmosphere.
after that, we made ID Card because we stay in campus area we have to have ID card because it's rule of the campus. in order make anyone knows that we are some student un WVSU.
